How To Help In The Rehabilitation Of Prisons

For a person to be incarcerated, they will have to commit a crime severe enough such that they are not fit to stay with others in the society. The crimes involved may range from drug-related arrests, murder, misdemeanors, robbery and other violent crimes. When one is considered to be a danger to the society, they have to be locked which leads to a lot of suffering especially for the family.

Nobody has ever truly done something they cannot come back from. Thus the reason for prisons to give the offender time to serve their time as well as rehabilitate them. This is to make them model citizens when they are released to the society so that no trouble is caused. The best way that this can be done is to use the gospel to appeal to human nature.

There have been cases where an inmate discovers God while imprisoned and live the rest of their lives in accordance to the Bible and its teachings. Nobody is truly ever irredeemable no matter what they have done in the past. They just have to face their actions and repent for what they have as they discover the power of reconciliation and forgiveness.
Prison ministry is unique in its nature since it involves five different parties for it to function effectively. The chaplain, prisoner, the correctional officer, volunteer and family of the inmate. All of these groups must be extremely cooperative for the process to run smoothly with as minimal obstacles as possible. New life is dedicated to real spiritual change of the prisoner as they continue to grow their love for God and follow his commandments.

After as prisoner has decided to give their life to Jesus Christ, they are baptized and become new beings and live in discipleship. There are other activities like counseling which aim at reaching the inmate at a more personal level. It helps them to own up to what they did and also forgive themselves as they try to live a better life.

The volunteer is the backbone of the entire operation as they help the chaplain in his roles and also get to interact with all of the groups involved. Therefore, they should have the necessary knowledge about the policies and laws concerning prisons. This is in order to ensure that security is not compromised in any way.

The volunteer is not allowed to give or take anything a convict. They are expected to dress appropriately and be on time during the Bible classes. They should also not tell the prisoner any personal information for their own safety outside the wall. There are several ways that one may assist if you are too busy to find time to volunteer.

One can pray for all the parties involved in providing this service or send money to the church to help them buy Bibles and other utilities for the inmates. Any sort of support is very much welcome to help break the cycle of imprisonment and provide change to the community. After one has served their time, the church can also help in the process of reunification with the society and help break the obstacles experienced in finding employment.
